Choosing the best WordPress Plugins

Saturday, January 21st, 2012

Ever wondered how to choose the best WP plugin from the myriad of Plugins listed for any particular task? Once you have found a few plugins that will do the job you have in mind, use these steps to make your choice.

  • Check when the plugin was last updated. (Within the year is better)
  • Check how many downloads there have been. (More is better)
  • Read the reviews and ratings.
  • Go to the developers site, read the documentation. Make sure you understand how to use it and can get help if you run into trouble with it. (Getting help from the developer is a definite plus, but if the developer is not available or does not support a forum, there are WP support groups that may provide help. Search your local area for such groups).

After you have made sure this plugin will do what you need and that you know how to use it, choose among those the the plug in that has the most recent update. This indicates that the plugin is under development and has not been abandoned, has the most downloads, and the least or no negative reviews.
